The Rubell Museum Miami will unveil three new exhibitions during Miami Art Week (December 2-8), including: works by Vanessa Raw, the museum’s Knight Foundation-supported 2024 artist-in-residence; recent acquisitions to the Rubell’s collection; and an installation of the museum’s Collection Highlights, drawn from the Rubell family’s expansive collection of contemporary art. Opening December 2, these exhibitions will be on view through Fall 2025.
Works by Vanessa Raw
British artist Vanessa Raw is the 2024 recipient of the museum’s Artist-in-Residence program. Born in 1984 in Hexham, England, Raw lives and works in Margate, England, and her presentation at the Rubell Museum Miami marks her first exhibition in the United States, as well as her first institutional show.
In these newly commissioned, large-scale works, Raw’s layered brushwork and expressive use of color depict a dream-like, all-female world—an earthly paradise where the natural world is benevolent and sentient, and where female desire is central.
Recent Acquisitions
A presentation of recent acquisitions spans the museum’s central galleries. Featuring solo exhibitions by seven artists, the exhibition demonstrates the Rubells’ continued commitment to identifying, engaging, and championing emerging artists. Featured artists include: Emmanuel Louisnord Desir, Omari Douglin, Patrick Goddard, February James, Murjoni Merriweather, Olaolu Slawn, and Michelle Uckotte.
Collection Highlights
Experience significant works spanning painting, sculpture, works on paper, and installation drawn from the Rubell family’s collection of more than 7,700 works. This iteration spotlights East Village artists practicing in the early 1980s, large-scale installations and sculptures and has several focused, in-depth presentations of single artists.
