A Meeting of the (Creative) Minds

Richard Allan x H&M collaborate on a new women’s wear collection based on the artist’s works.

H&M has just embarked on a new collaboration, this time with the eclectic British brand Richard Allan. Founded in 1962, the brand is renowned for its contemporary scarves in bold designs, abstract patterns and vibrant colors. The women’s wear collection features iconic Richard Allan prints sourced from the artist’s vast archive and reimagined in the form of dresses, blouses, skirts, shirts, pants and accessories, with flowing silhouettes and eye-catching details such as high necklines, wide cuffs and soft pleats. The color palette and prints are inspired by London in the swinging ‘60s. Prints such as the pulsating Piccadilly; flowing Paraph; Palme, which is based on the tree; and Sanaa, named after the historical city, are prevalent in the collection. Patterns such as Muse, an abstract representation of the nine muses of Greek mythology, and Scott, an interpretation of early woven plaids from the Scottish Lowlands and forerunners of modern Tartans, offer strong geometrical patterning to the contemporary fluid shapes. “It is wonderful to know that my father’s prints will be worn by a whole new audience—he would have been thrilled, as I am,” says Cate Allan, creative director of Richard Allan London. “It will hopefully open the door to new generations in new places, showcasing the extraordinary talents of Richard Allan, whose prints became a byword for colorful chic.” For more, visit 2.hm.com.

Run for Their Lives

Support young women’s futures—and success—by hitting the pavement at the Women of Tomorrow 10K Walk & Run.

Get your running shoes ready: It’s time again for the annual Women of Tomorrow Mentor & Scholarship Program 10K Walk & Run on Sunday, October 20, benefitting the Women of Tomorrow Mentor & Scholarship Program. The 10K Walk & Run will start at Emmanuel Sanon Soccer Park in Miami, traverse the neighborhoods of El Portal and Miami Shores, and conclude at Pelican Harbor in North Bay Village. The race is timed and tracked via a timing chip for every participant. An awards presentation will follow the race, along with family-friendly activities at Pelican Harbor. Sponsorship opportunities provide a unique avenue for team-building activities and a great way to connect with others in the community, as well as a VIP brunch at Shuckers Waterfront Bar & Grill with family and friends. To reserve a sponsorship or request more information, email 10K@womenoftomorrow.org.

Get Up & Glow

To Jungle Island for the fascinating spectacle that is Luminosa, Festival of Lights.

Jungle Island spent over a month installing 34 beautifully intricate lantern exhibits, including its own interpretation of an iconic Wynwood destination and a South Beach Art Deco scene, as part of Luminosa, Festival of Lights. The park will invite visitors from around the globe to marvel at a nighttime jungle illuminated by giant lanterns, uplit by over one million LED lights and hand-crafted out of colorful silk by Chinese artisans, from October 5, 2019, to January 8, 2020, and embark on a journey through light across 13 of the park’s 18 acres that tells a magical story of the jungle, beginning with an exploration of wildlife, birds, blooms and Biscayne Bay. A few of the visual delights will include towering orchids and flowers, a demure cassowary and striking silk parrots in the “Birds and Blooms” exhibit; a sea of glowing jellyfish in the “Biscayne Bay” display; some of the world’s rarest animals down “Jungle Trail”; to a 114-foot-long by 26-foot-tall panoramic scene of Miami’s most iconic destination decked out in Chinese graffiti art in the “Miami Style” exhibit. All lanterns will be illuminated by environmentally friendly LED lights and made out of waterproof and fire-resistant silk materials (over 11 miles worth!) supported by steel frames. The cost is $35.95 per adult and $30.95 per child—but you can save 20 percent by purchasing tickets in advance at jungleisland.com.
