Maison Margiela will project large-scale artwork by London-based video installation artist Marco Brambilla on the façade of its future flagship store (set to open spring of 2021) in the Miami Design District (142 NE 41st St.) from December 3 to 5 in honor of Design Miami/.
Brambilla’s renowned work Nude Descending a Staircase No. 3 will be on view to the public each evening from 7 to 10 p.m. The contemporary work is a digital re-imagination of Marcel Duchamp’s 1912 masterpiece, Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2. Brambilla transformed Duchamp’s original static painting into a monumental moving panorama depicting 3D animated figures cascading down infinite, invisible stairs, set to the tune of a haunting piano score. The piece pays homage to the deconstructed image and advances the classical into the contemporary.
As an internationally celebrated film and video installation artist, Brambilla’s recent work includes a Cate Blanchett collaboration, The Four Temperaments, and a video installation included in Marina Abramović’s highly anticipated opera, 7 Deaths of Maria Callas. Both works premiered in September 2020.
