The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science in downtown Miami will unveil “The Dig,” the debut exhibition and laboratory of Frost’s paleontology department.
This interactive experience offers a rare glimpse into the world of fossil discovery and preparation. Equipped with the PaleoLab, a working fossil preparation laboratory, “The Dig” invites visitors to witness the meticulous process of uncovering ancient specimens, including viewing fossil preparation in real-time through interactive videos.
“The Dig” also features interactive stations where guests can explore the tools and techniques paleontologists employ, as well as identify fossils and virtually reconstruct extinct creatures. A central highlight is a full-scale, scientifically accurate cast of the “Tufts-Love” Tyrannosaurus rex skull, the most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skull ever found.
Frost Science launched its paleontology department in 2022. This innovative exhibition reflects Frost Science’s commitment to education and discovery, bridging the gap between scientific research and public engagement. It also highlights South Florida’s first active paleontology research program.
Admission to “The Dig” is included with all museum tickets. For more information about Frost Science and its paleontology research program, visit frostscience.org/thedig.
