“Expressions” Takes Over Miami Design District

A collection of talks and panel discussions will take place at participating venues throughout the district on September 23 and 24

The Miami Design District will host the fourth iteration of “Expressions,” a series of curated talks and panel discussions aimed at encouraging the exchange of ideas, on September 23 and September 24. Designed in collaboration with Istituto Marangoni—a fashion, art, and design school located in the Design District—“Expressions” features local and international influencers and industry experts offering insights on poignant topics. The talks will be held at Istituto Marangoni and the neighborhood’s Palm Court Event Space. Reservations and masks are required and talks will be limited to 50 guests.

On September 23, beginning at 3 p.m., guests will sit in on “NFTs in the 305: Miami’s Innovative Phygital Landscape” at Istituto Marangoni. Panelists will include Neil Schwarm, Head of Operational Risk at L1 Digital AG; Tam Gryn, head curator at Showfields and Director of Fine Arts at Rally.io; and Marc Billings, founder and CEO of Blackdove. Massimo Casagrande, Dean of Fashion at Istituto Marangoni, will moderate the conversation.

At 6 p.m., “Transformative Beauty in the Age of Inclusivity: Pioneering New Narratives in the Beauty Industry” will take over Istituto Marangoni. Moderator Erin Michelle Newberg will lead a poignant discussion featuring panelists Jamila Powell, founder of Naturally Drenched; Sonsoles Gonzalez, CEO and founder of Better Not Younger; and Forty Amsel, founder of BeYou Cosmetics.

On September 24, the Palm Court Event Space will come alive with a panel discussion on “Creatives Leading the Conversation on Climate” at 11 a.m. Camila Straschnoy, co-founder of Mate House Consulting will moderate the discussion among the panelists: artists Jean Thierry Besins and Fereshteh Toosi; Juliette Desfeux, Sustainability Advisor at The Spinnaker Group; Hunter Vaughan, environmental media scholar and Senior Research Associate at the University of Cambridge; Lauren Shapiro, Visual Arts Faculty M.F.A. at University of Miami.

At 4 p.m., “What’s Cooking? Miami’s Community-Centric Food Scene” will take over the event space with Nidal Barake, founder of Gluttonomy; Ryan Pfeffer, staff editor of The Infatuation; and Yeliz Titiz, founder of The Bazaar Project. Grace Della, founder of Miami Culinary Tours, will moderate.

“Welcome to the YOLO Economy!” will close out the event at 6:30 p.m. featuring Mariolga Calderon, founder of Mo’s Bundt Cakes; Claudia Durán, managing director of Endeavor Miami; and Ariel Bacal, co-founder of BLANX. Patricia Alfonso Tortolani, editor and brand strategist, will moderate the discussion.
