Faena Theater in South Beach will stage its new Faena Live resident show, Carmen, premiering September 20.
Carmen will be produced in partnership with Quixotic, an award-winning performance art collective. The production will transport audiences into this reimagined tale of fervor and fiery passion, where femme fatales, bold machismo, and smoldering romance converge in an avant-garde revue. The show will be led by master of ceremonies Mimi Barber, with an ensemble of world-renowned choreographers, musicians, and digital artists bringing the story to life.
Carmen originally premiered in 1875 and tells an operatic story of passion, freedom, and fatal attraction. It follows the fiery and free-spirited Carmen and her love affair with soldier Don José, one rife with jealousy and betrayal. Renowned for its vibrant music and dramatic storyline, the original opera unfolds featuring iconic pieces like “Habanera” and the “Toreador Song.”
Faena’s production will feature injections of the creative team’s signature style, marrying the fierce passion of flamenco with cabaret, fire artistry, cirque nouveau, percussive live music, visuals, and mixed styles of contemporary dance. The music for this latest production of Carmen will feature an eclectic mix of flamenco and pop with a dash of hip-hop performed by Spanish vocalist Bita, flamenco guitarist Rodrigo Valdez, and Miami percussionist Otto Santana Selis.
Guests can enjoy a Spanish-inspired dinner experience with Faena Theater’s new crudo selection, Spanish tapas, Spanish-inspired dessert, craft cocktails, and an expansive wine list.
Tickets start at $100 and are available at faena.com. Performances will take place on Thursdays at 8 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Check-in begins 30 minutes prior to the show time. Guests 18+ are welcome and a valid ID is required upon arrival.
