Kindred tropical spirits Miami and Tulum unite across Wave at 1 Beach Club, a dreamy, new outdoor restaurant at 1 Hotel South Beach, open Fridays to Sundays noon-8 p.m. In true Tulum fashion, nature and organic materials connect through design: Pat- terned pillows, driftwood furniture, and woven tex- tiles are gracefully cast in the downy sands between swaying palms, native flora, and potted succulents. A seafood-forward menu capitalizes on the bounties of the Atlantic and Mediterranean, underscored by raw seafood towers, charred oysters, and the sensational loup de mer (Mediterranean sea bass) topped with a salsa verde of herbs and capers, and accompanied by a salad of charred fennel and roasted artichokes.
Refreshing Mexican-inspired cocktails like the Coba (a sweet-yet-smoky balance of Gem & Bolt mezcal, aloe vera liqueur, hibiscus, lime, and water- melon agua fresca in a tajin-rimmed glass) and hyp- notic, DJ-led lounge beats complete a toes-in-the- sand Tulum fantasy. All the while, the common sight of magnum- and jeroboam-sized Champagnes and rosés remind us we’re still in the flash of Miami—and unapologetically so.
