To make spirits bright this December, Miami offers shows featuring graceful ballerinas, jaw-dropping acrobats, and musicians decked out in their seasonal best. Read on for three must-not-miss holiday performances.
Sugarplum Dreams
A tradition ingrained into Miami’s holiday season, the Miami City Ballet brings to life a fever dream of nutcrackers, fairies, mice, dolls, and flowers with George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker. More than 100 dancers will take to the stage in the Land of Snow to tell the story of little Clara, who dreams of a battle between her toy Nutcracker and the Mouse King on the night before Christmas. The ballet company is making its annual tri-county tour and will perform at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts December 15-24.
Let it Snow
The The Diplomat Beach Resort is welcoming an entertainment residency to its grounds: Pomp, Snow & Cirqueumstance. Led by Broadway producer and director Neil Goldberg, the show is based on Goldberg’s book of the same name. Watch as three friends take to the 360-degree stage and embark on a whirlwind journey. At a secret university, they master music, magic, and circus arts. Along the way, they encounter a myriad of performers who dazzle with aerial feats, juggling, contortionism, skating, levitation, and other stunning acts. Pomp, Snow & Cirqueumstance’s residency runs December 22-30.
Merry Music
Travel around the world through music as the New World Symphony performs “Sounds of the Season,” a program filled with music spanning diverse holiday traditions and cultures. In its home at the New World Center’s Michael Tilson Thomas Performance Hall, the orchestra will welcome Molly Turner for her miami conducting debut. With a Résumé that includes leading the Orchestre de Paris, Gstaad Festival Orchestra, Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn, Juilliard Orchestra, Dallas Opera Orchestra, and many more, Turner is sure to succeed. The show will run December 15-16. the show on December 15 is free for residents of the City of Miami Beach with proof of residency.
