Their team of board-certified dermatologists, physician assistant, and aesthetician work together to craft individually tailored cosmetic regimens for optimal results.

Stephen N. Horwitz, MD, FADD, and Donna Bilu Martin, MD, FADD, have assembled a highly trained, experienced team that provides comprehensive dermatological care and also specializes in Ultherapy, a state-of-the-art nonsurgical treatment that uses ultrasound to tighten skin and lift the face and neck.

What are the credentials of your team members?
Dr. Horwitz is a board-certified dermatologist who has been practicing in South Florida for more than 25 years. He received his undergraduate degree at University of Miami, and his medical degree from Tulane Medical School. He completed his dermatology residencies at Charity Hospital, Tulane Division in New Orleans, and at Mount Sinai Medical Center locally. He offers the latest in cosmetic and general dermatology, as well as the Mohs technique for treating skin cancers.

Dr. Donna Bilu Martin is a board-certified dermatologist who was raised in Aventura. She completed her undergraduate studies at The Johns Hopkins University and received her medical degree at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she was awarded a Dean’s Research Fellowship. She completed her residency in Dermatology at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore. She specializes in cosmetic procedures, as well as general and surgical dermatology, and is fluent in Hebrew.

Whitney Krohn, MMS, PA-C, is a physician assistant. She received her Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Florida and continued her education at Nova Southeastern University, where she was awarded a Masters of Medical Sciences and a second Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. While she treats patients in all aspects of medical and cosmetic dermatology, she has a special interest in acne and cosmetic skincare.

Why is Ultherapy the latest weapon in the war against aging and gravity?
Ultherapy is a nonsurgical, effective treatment that uses ultrasound to stimulate collagen, resulting in a tighter and lifted lower face and neck. It’s an FDA-cleared device that delivers energy to a set depth below the surface of the skin without injuring the surface of the skin. This energy then stimulates collagen production, resulting in a toned, tighter appearance. When used on the upper face, it can lift the brow and open the eyes.

What can patients expect from Ultherapy?
The treatment takes between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on which areas are treated. There is very minimal to no downtime. Occasional side effects include temporary swelling and bruising. Patients can return to their normal activities after the treatment. Results take about three months to see, and improvement may continue for up to six months. Ideal candidates are those in their 30s and older with some skin laxity. The treatment can be performed on any skin type.

What can be done for volume loss?
The antidote to hollows and wrinkles are fillers. Hyaluronic acid (Restylane, Juvederm, Belotero), calcium hydroxylapatite (Radiesse) and poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra) all play a role in correcting the bone and fat loss that occur with aging. Treating the temples, undereye hollows, cheeks, nasolabial folds, jawline and marionette lines can restore a more youthful and natural appearance. Which filler is used where varies with each patient’s specific facial structure.

What does a good skin care routine include?
The essentials include sunscreen, an antioxidant/growth factor serum, and retinol creams. Growth factor serum rejuvenates skin and promote new collagen formation to replace the collagen damaged by sun and aging. We also carry products for specific needs: to reduce facial redness, improve brown spots/hyperpigmentation, hydrate the delicate skin around the eyes, smooth rough areas, etc. Each person’s skin type and needs are different, and are addressed during a visit at our practice.  The importance of sun protection, especially down here in South Florida, is paramount. Exercising regularly, eating a well balanced, healthy diet, and not smoking help skin retain its glow and elasticity. Ultimately, the best results often result from synergistic treatments: a great skincare regimen, botox, fillers, lasers, and tightening technologies all work together to keep skin looking radiant and youthful.
